AirFit P30i Nasal Pillow Mask: Product Review

Product Review: ResMed AirFit P30i Face Mask

A not too distant relative of the popular AirFit N30i, the ResMed AirFit P30i is a nasal pillow mask that aims to outshine its predecessor. And boy, did it have big shoes to fill!

Designed to provide a natural sleep environment, this mask intends to keep you comfortable at all times. With a hollow and flexible frame, it is perfect for active sleepers while also being minimally intrusive so you can still read a book or watch TV while wearing the mask thanks to its open field of vision.

Many users have praised ResMed for the introduction of this nasal pillow mask especially the addition of the pillow cushions. These pillow cushions provide easier breathing and a more snug seal fit for some patients. While others have coined it as the quietest CPAP mask on the market.

Let’s delve a little deeper into the AirFit P30i and see if these claims really are true.

What Are The Top Features Of This CPAP Mask?

First, let’s look at the top features of this nasal CPAP mask. Like with all ResMed masks, a lot of thought and consideration has gone into the design of the AirFit P30i to improve the ease of use and comfort for the Sleep Apnea patient.

This nasal pillow CPAP mask promises to deliver the following to its customers:

  • Spring Fit Frame - The ResMed AirFit P30i was designed to provide a universal fit when it comes to facial size and shape. It easily contours to the face and is made with soft, comfortable materials that don’t leave any irritating skin marks the next morning.
  • Top of Head Design - This Sleep Apnea mask was designed to feature the tubing at the top of the head rather than at the front, like other models such as AirFit P10. This provides ease of movement and use.
  • 360-Degree Swivel & Quick Release Elbow - To improve comfort and ease of use, the ResMed AirFit P30i was designed with a quick-release elbow and a 360-degree swivel. This makes sure that the mask moves with you in your sleep and can be quickly detached if you need to get up during the night.
  • QuietAir Diffuser - Checking in at 21 decibels, this mask is more than just quiet but whisper quiet. This feature is highly praised especially as it ensures a quiet and peaceful environment for all in the bedroom.

AirFit P30i vs AirFit N30i Nasal CPAP Mask

As the N30i is considered as one of our top-rated CPAP masks, we were curious to see exactly how the AirFit P30i stacked up in comparison.

At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be many differences between these two masks. They are both designed with the same headgear, frame, strap and elbow connection. Both Sleep Apnea masks are inclusive of all sleeping positions and operate below 24 decibels for a peaceful night of sleep.

AirFit N30i vs AirFit P30i

Where the difference really lies is the design of the nasal cushion. The P30i’s pillow cushion makes a seal inside the nostrils, whereas the N30i creates a seal underneath the nostrils. Some CPAP users have noted that the pillow cushions of the AirFit P30i provide a more comfortable seal and allow them to breathe more easily.

However, if your CPAP pressure is set quite high than this mask type won’t be for you. The good news is that the cushions of both the N30i and P30i are completely interchangeable.

Overall, both of these ResMed masks are quite similar but where the AirFit P30i truly wins out is how quiet it is. Operating at 3 decibels quieter than the AirFit N30i, if you’re a noise-sensitive person who truly wants to hear only the faintest hum as the air circulates through your mask, the P30i nasal pillow mask won’t disappoint.

Staff Review: What We Think About The AirFit P30i CPAP Mask

As you may have already guessed, our team is a long time fan of ResMed equipment. Many of our staff members have used the AirFit N30i before and were looking forward to getting to try the P30i version for themselves.

As a nasal CPAP mask, it is comfortable and one of the quietest on the market especially in comparison to Dreamwear or Swift FX. In terms of price, it is slightly more expensive than other nasal pillow masks we carry. However, for the ease of use and flexible mobility that it provides, it is worth the price tag.

Having said that, there are some cons. One downside is that this mask only comes in two frame sizes - Standard and Small. This could potentially pose some headgear sizing issues for certain users. The nasal cushion’s exterior is also quite hard and can dig into your face, which is something to take into consideration if you’re a side or stomach sleeper.

Another downside is that the fit pack packaging is not very eco-friendly. If you already know your size, receiving extra cushions and frames that you cannot use and will have to dispose of can end up being a waste.

Our final verdict is that if you’re looking for a nasal CPAP mask that provides a great seal, will allow you to move around as much as you like during the night without the risk of mask leakage and is super quiet then you can’t go wrong by giving the ResMed AirFit P30i a try.
