The SleepStyle Auto CPAP machine which was released by Fisher & Paykel in 2018 and aimed to pave a way for CPAP devices that are reliable, make CPAP therapy comfortable and offer whisper-quiet noise levels. With a simplistic and user-friendly design, thanks to its large and responsive buttons, many users are a fan of this sleek, compact device.
As part of the development of this PAP machine, Fisher & Paykel heavily involved and collaborated with CPAP users during its design. Made for users by users, this AutoPAP machine incorporates a comprehensive range of technologies that make the SleepStyle capable of competing with the best PAP machine brands on the market.
When it comes to any CPAP device, especially AutoPAP machines, what truly sells it are the core features that it offers. While we all expect these devices to deliver effective therapy, it is the how behind this that really matters.
So, what exactly are the main features that you can expect from Fisher & Paykel’s SleepStyle Auto CPAP machine?
Its integrated design aims to offer simplicity and comfort to users. This PAP machine has a considerably smaller footprint than other machines on the market due to having a built-in power supply and humidifier. Its large and responsive buttons and the user-friendly menu design also ensures that users won’t have to fumble around and waste time with tiny display screens trying to set up their machines.
The SleepStyle Auto offers a new form of humidification technology called AirSpiral. This technology helps to minimize the build-up of condensation in the tubing during use. Not only does the humidifier have the ability to detect changes in ambient temperature and humidity but provides improved humidity control for users.
This Auto CPAP machine also features a new proprietary technology called SensAwake. This is a responsive ramp feature that has the capability of detecting periods where you might wake up during the night and is then able to adjust and reduce pressure levels to help you return to sleep easily and comfortably.
Coupled together with its ability to auto-adjust CPAP pressure levels, the SensAwake technology ensures that users receive a comfortable therapy experience and receive natural breathing patterns.
As we mentioned above, the SleepStyle CPAP machine has the ability to automatically adjust CPAP pressure levels but especially on exhalation. For many users, it is when they are breathing out that they experience the most discomfort with continuous positive airway pressure. This feature ensures that breathing out against CPAP pressure is always comfortable for the user.
Finally, this Auto CPAP machine features an easy to remove water chamber for cleaning purposes. As heated humidification is a core feature of this machine, it is important that users can get easy access to cleaning this part of the CPAP equipment.
Users can easily access the water chamber by opening the top of the machine and lifting it straight out. Fisher & Paykel designed this component of the machine with ease of use in mind and on a one-way system. That means that there is no guesswork on your end and no fear of putting it back in the wrong way. Just click out, clean and put right back in. No hassles!
While knowing the features is great when considering buying a new PAP machine, the true test lies in how it is received by Sleep Apnea patients and how it compares to other PAP machines. While the SleepAuto certainly delivers in terms of comfort features and ease of use, when put up against the DreamStation Auto Expert it does have some downsides. First, in terms of price, it does lie on the more expensive end of the scale which wouldn’t suit everyone’s budgets. Additionally, while it certainly is quiet, the DreamStation Auto Expert wins in this category.
However, saying that, many users have praised this PAP machine for its ThermoSmart tubing feature and have noted the improvement in ease of use due to better humidification. Others also enjoy the compact size of the device noting that it doesn’t take up too much space beside their beds and is an ideal size for travel.
Fisher & Paykel have always been successful in designing PAP equipment that aims to improve the sleep quality of Sleep Apnea patients. While it is clear to see that this Auto CPAP machine is paving the way for better auto-adjusting pressure technology and humidification, along with device style, it may not be suitable for all budget levels.
Its compact size, modern design coupled with its impressive new humidification and ramp technologies do make the SleepStyle Auto CPAP machine unique. We believe that many users will appreciate the heated tubing feature as other users already have.
However, if you’re looking for an APAP machine that is more affordable and offers equally impressive pressure ramp features then the DreamStation Auto Expert or AirSense 10 AutoSet may be a better choice.
Which should you choose? Ultimately, that depends on the exact specifications and features you’re looking for in a PAP machine. If you’re unsure which machine is best for you, feel free to reach out to our experts who are always available to answer any questions that you may have.
